In the text of Luke 10.38-41, John 11,
Martha is the first and Mary the second and yet, Mary seems far more
interesting to the reader and is certainly the woman who has the most
intimate and loving relationship with Jesus. Though it appears that both
are in a communion of friendship with Christ.
Martha and Mary welcomes Jesus as a guest. Martha has the leading
of heart to her housework, her heart being lead by a traditional
mind to serve people. Mary was quite the contrary, in Jesus'
presence, she becomes paralyzed. She sits at his feet, not wanting
to move from HIS site. All her soul is in listening.
The scriptures teach us, be still and know that I am GOD.
The two sisters in their relationship with Christ teaches us if
we surrender to Jesus, than that which we build up for Him will never be
taken away. Christian sanctity is essentially a communion with Christ and
is a communion of love.

Luke
10-38 Now as they went on their
way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into
her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's
feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with
much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that
my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help
me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are
anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has
chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from
her.
